Post elections will be held this coming Thursday April 10, 2025 at 7 p.m. Nominations for Post Officers will be re-opened before the election is held. We ask that all members try to attend this very important meeting.

The District III Meeting will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at VFW Post 8785, located at 509 W Main St, Mesquite 75149. The telephone number is 972-329-9870. Face covering is optional. Our state representative is State Junior Vice Commander Benny Guerrero. The District III Joint Meeting will begin at 10:00 am starting with the Joint Memorial Service, so please send your post’s names to the Commander or Chaplain. A joint lunch with the Auxiliary will be held at $10 per plate starting at 11am. Business meeting will start at noon to include election of District III Officers for 2025-26. The Joint Installation will be held 10 minutes after the end of both meetings.

Our 1920's Speakeasy themed Dinner and Dance will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025. Seating in the Social Hall at 5:45 p.m., with table service starting at 6:00 p.m.

Dress in your vintage 1920's style clothing (jackets recommended) and try a classic 1920's cocktail.


For the dinner, celebrate Valentine's Day with a sumptuous Italian feast, featuring classic dishes like braised beef ragu and seafood linguine pasta with shrimp, little neck clams, and mussels. Whether you're celebrating with a loved one or enjoying the company of friends, this is an evening you won't want to miss.

Today, we gather to remember a day that forever changed the course of history—December 7th, 1941. On this “date which will live in infamy,” brave men and women faced an unthinkable attack at Pearl Harbor. In the face of devastation, they demonstrated extraordinary courage, resilience, and sacrifice.

This solemn day reminds us of the cost of freedom and the unyielding spirit of those who stand to defend it. Let us honor the lives lost, the survivors who carried the burden of that day, and the generations that rose to rebuild and fight for a better future.

As we reflect on this chapter of history, may we recommit ourselves to preserving peace, supporting those who serve, and ensuring the sacrifices of the past are never forgotten. Today, we remember. Today, we honor. Today, we pledge to never forget.

Following the memorial we got back to work for our Post GI Party. Thanks to all who showed up and helped us clean up the Social Hall, Game Room and Storage shed.



The following day, Rene Morales and his family held a toy drive for Children's Hospital in honor of Baby Natalie. The back corner of our social hall is accessible again and already being put to great use-on Sunday this was Santa's corner. Rene and his granddaughter, Carissa!

Tomorrow morning we are having a GI Party at the Post starting at 10:00 am. We need volunteers to help clean our kitchen, remove broken items and clean out the Social Hall, hallways and storage unit. Our members have voted to remove unserviceable, unsightly and abandoned items and tomorrow we are going to get the job done!

Volunteers will receive two Good Soldier drinks and much appreciation. The Patio bar will be open from 1-4 pm and rumor has it that we will have specials on hand.

We guided the 30 yard dumpster into place this morning, so we are ready to roll, rain or shine!

No need to alter our existing cabinetry, all our bartenders easily fit beneath the new opening.

And then some more electrical work. Bryan Thornton added a quad outlet on the inside of the bar wall and a dual on the customer facing side.



The last piece will be to add dimmable LEDs so the bartenders can have better lighting where they need it. Coming soon.

And that was it. Twenty minutes, a beautiful day, and no one fell off the trailer. Three of our riders were first timers, including our very own Susan Soch and Jerry Greene's daughter Brooke, who had a blast and apparently was live-casting.

Meanwhile, back at the Post we readied food for vets and our families. Thanks to Mark D$ for donating the brisket and sides and to Ron for donating and cooking brats, Logan who cooked the brisket, Sandra, Susan and Mike for being the A-Team of the Kitchen. A special shout out to Sprouts Farmers Market for delivering delicious sandwich trays, deviled eggs (gone so quickly) and more! They also donated a $100.00 gift certificate to the Post. And thanks to so many others who contributed during the day and asked me to not put their names out.

The parade is on Veterans Day, Monday November 11th.

We have sent printable parking passes to key members of the Post and Auxiliary. Early birds (with trailer) will be departing Post around 8:30 am on this coming Monday, November 11th. Others plan to car pool out at 9 or a little later. We will be serving breakfast out of mermite cans at the parade ground for those who ride.

The Post will be serving brisket (thanks Mark D$, Mike and Logan) after the parade. We are number 40 (great slot) so sometime around 1pm. The Post is also serving brats, dogs and burgers to serve throughout the day. Come hungry!

Greetings. On behalf of the Dallas Veterans Day Parade Committee and the Greater Dallas Veterans Foundation we thank you for your participation in the 27th anniversary of the Greater Dallas Veterans Day Parade. Each year of course we request participants exhibit a patriotic theme. Where possible, parade participants should wear caps or clothes identifying their military connection. It is desired that all participating organizations provide a banner identifying their parade group. As noted we are excited to return to Fair Park after several years. The following staging instruction details are provided below.
Timing:
• Parade units may start forming at 9:00 A.M
• The official Parade Check-in tent is located at Gate 12 (Lot 12C) NOTE: Check in is imperative to confirm your parade position and obtain a Parade position # sign to be displayed prominently at the front or the RIGHT side of the vehicle or parade entry.
• The Parade will begin about 11:15 A.M. Specific instructions and locations will be provided at check. Parade will begin at the direction of the Parade Boss.
Entry into the Park:
• School buses will enter through Gate 11 (also known as the Lagow Gate).
• All other entries come in from Gaisford Street (no Gate #, but the Check-in tent is at Gate 12).
• Animal units (horses) enter on Gaisford and go down to the street between buildings 24 and 25. That way they can park their trailers and horses will not be "twitchy" over the bands; they'll have a relatively quiet area to wait and will be fed in as the parade passes this street.
• Personal vehicles can be parked in Lots 10B, 9B, 9A.
• After dropping the kids (bands, ROTC units), the buses will come down Pennsylvania to park in Lots 8A and B to wait.
Parade Marching Instructions:
• Units should maintain a close interval with the unit in front of them and prevent gaps from developing between units.
• Once organizations are moving in the parade, they are not allowed stop on the parade route unless so directed by a parade official, police officer, or when there is something physically impeding forward movement.
• Bands will not stop anywhere on the parade route for maneuvers or demonstrations except as outlined in rule 5 above. Such maneuvers or demonstrations are allowed if the Band continues forward progress and maintains a close interval with the unit in front of them.
• Horse Units must provide fecal cleanup for their animals following directly behind throughout the parade.
Other instructions:
• Portable Toilets are located 12B
• MAPS and a Parking Pass are attached
• No items are to be passed from parade participants to the spectators (City Ordinance). This includes but is not limited to food, drinks, candy, beads, clothing, etc.
• No alcohol is to be brought into or consumed in the staging or parade areas.
• Golf carts will be available to shuttle older participants from the parking area to their assigned starting point.
Organizations participating in the parade will be judged as they pass the Reviewing Stand in front of the Hall of Nations. Awards will be presented to the top units. Bands should be playing as they enter reviewing stand area, and we suggest a patriotic song with a marching cadence as units pass the Reviewing Stand. Please do not stop or offer a performance on the route, and do not throw anything from within the parade. We request that Bands play predominantly patriotic songs, along the parade route.

The music and storytelling by the Ukrainian performers was phenomenal and we hope you all enjoyed the evening. Thanks to our karaoke crowd for starting a little late last Halloween night.

The MRE competition is fierce. Teams select a random MRE and then head off to the "Black Market" to doctor their meals up. Mock military script is available for a donation and that's what contestants use to "buy" their black market foods and spices.

But it was not to be. This year the Post Auxiliary team took First Place in a stunning upset against the Post! Of course Shawn's entry did win Best Presentation. Congrats and thanks to all who came out to support our Post.

On Thursday (Halloween) we will be hosting the Ukrainian Armed Forces musical group from 6-8pm. These are combat veterans of the war in Ukraine and they are touring the United States to say Thank You to America. There is no admission charge, so please join us if you can. Ronnie Ray and karaoke will start right afterwards this Thursday Night.

Friday is steak night!



Stu will be cooking 60 ribeye steaks, with baked potatoes, corn on the cob and salad. We have reduced our prices to $20.00 in case you haven't joined us lately. Those long lines are down and we have a new kitchen printer that sends your order straight to the cooks. Your name will be called in the hall as soon as your order is ready!


Dr. MRE 2024!

This coming Saturday will be the seventh year of our Dr. MRE contest. Our 'Marine Brothers' have won every year. Is this the year someone will displace the reigning champions? It's only $25.00 to compete (max 2 cooks per team) and $5.00 to taste (you get brats to eat--we wont serve MREs to our members and guests!)

Last but not least by a stretch, I want to thank CL and Logan Roy for getting us a little closer to opening the canteen bar wall to the outside. The sink closest to the entrance door has been leaking for years and it was also too long to allow us to do our cut out.

Today, more than 80,000 Americans remain unaccounted for — a reminder of the sacrifices made, and the uncertainty endured by so many. On this solemn National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we honor the service and sacrifice of those who have yet to return and hold their families in our hearts. We also renew our commitment to the promise that every hero will be brought home.
The black and white banner we raise today first served as a tribute to those who fought in Vietnam but who remain missing or unaccounted for. Today, it is a powerful symbol of hope and remembrance for all service members who haven’t made it home, no matter the mission.

On Jan. 7, 1970, Navy Lt. Cmdr. Michael G. Hoff launched his Sidewinder A7A Corsair from the USS Coral Sea to begin an armed reconnaissance mission over Laos. His last radio transmission reported a fire warning. Then his plane inverted. Moments later, his flight leader reported seeing Hoff’s aircraft explode on impact.
When Hoff’s wife, Mary Helen, got the news, she would have no body to bury. Yet, she turned her grief into action, leading a passionate campaign for recognition of all our missing and captive heroes. The POW/MIA flag was one of her efforts, and it was officially recognized by Congress in 1989. Today, it reminds all Americans of our service members’ bravery and sacrifice.
Thank you for taking the time to remember these heroes on this important day and for holding their families in your thoughts. VFW Post 6796 commemorated Patriot Day on Wednesday September 11, 2024. Post Adjutant Ron Rogers delivered the speech and we also welcomed our special guests from Dallas Fire Department Station 31. Judge Advocate Clayton Hosterman delivered the prayer, and Trustee Kevin Thomas shared his memories of that day.






An All American dinner was served (donations only) with Commander Mark Clark providing the sloppy joe sandwiches and potato salad and Jr. Vice Commander Eddie Lara providing the key ingredient: tater tots.

Ron: Today, we gather with heavy hearts to remember the events of September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed our nation and the world. We honor the lives of the nearly 3,000 innocent men, women, and children who were tragically taken from us, and we stand in solidarity with the families who continue to bear the pain of their loss. Their bravery in the face of unimaginable terror reminds us of the resilience and strength that define us as a nation.

On Friday, August 31, Post 6796 asked our members and guests to join us in recognizing the service of those who participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

More than 1.5 million soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines deployed to Iraq between March 20, 2003, and Dec. 18, 2011. More than 32,000 U.S. service members were wounded in action in Iraq and its surrounding area, and 4,486 made the ultimate sacrifice, a total almost double the number of lives lost worldwide in the Global War on Terrorism. On Dec. 18, 2011, the last convoy of American troops left Iraq and more than 21 years after Saddam Hussein’s forces invaded Kuwait, it seemed as though our nation could finally shift our focus away from Iraq. However, it only took three years before we were sending the U.S. military back to the country to combat the terror group ISIS through Operation Inherent Resolve.

Thank you for joining the more than 1.4 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary in honoring the veterans of the Iraq War and remembering those still deployed overseas protecting our freedom.

John Franklin Sprague Post 6796 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States pays honor tonight at 6:00 p.m. to America’s Greatest Generation of veterans as we mark the 79th anniversary of V-J Day, Victory over Japan Day, when Japan formally surrendered and officially ended World War II.

On Sept. 2, 1945, Gen. Douglas MacArthur, along with the Japanese foreign minister, Mamoru Shigemitsu, and the chief of staff of the Japanese Army, Yoshijiro Umezu, signed the official Japanese surrender aboard the USS Missouri.

VJ Day is in remembrance of the more than 400,000 Americans and 60 million people killed worldwide during the deadliest military conflict in human history. We thank the more than 16.1 million American service members who answered the call to protect freedom and democracy. This is the first Friday night dinner served in the Social Hall in many years and we think you will love the atmosphere. Our intrepid volunteers have worked non-stop preparing for the first of many dinners to be served in our main hall.

The District III Call Meeting will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at VFW Post 7843. Post 7843 is located at 702 Hwy 67 East, Duncanville, Texas 75137. The telephone number is 972-296-4200. Business with QM Moffitt will be conducted starting at 8:00 am. The District III Call Meeting is being held to approve the District budget and conduct the District’s School of Instruction, will begin at 10:00 am. Robert Rouse, State Deputy Inspector, will be the State Representative.


The remaining VFW District III meetings and events will be:

October 19, 2024 at Post 8913.
December 14, 2024 at Post 6796.
February 22, 2025 at Post 8627.

April 12, 2025, for the Joint VFW & Auxiliary District Meeting and Convention at Post 8785 (Blues & Grays).

May 31, 2025, Joint District III Awards and Homecoming Dinner at Post 5076.

Members should dress appropriately for the District Meetings. Common sense dictates here. When you walk into the building, the sad muddy patch has been replaced with a beautiful stone garden--take a look:



Our intrepid crew showed up early on a weekend morning and transformed the Post entrance. Many thanks to Kathi Dorfmeister, Shelley Roberts, Mike McCann, Bryan Blankenship,Terry Jarvis and Kelley Russell!

To complete the social hall bar wall renovation, two of our friends from the Fraternal Order of Eagles helped move the water and drain lines for our new ice machine and get the electric in a permanent location (no more tripping hazards!). Brian Kitching, the President of the FOE did the plumbing and Brian Thornton of the FOE did the electric. We didn't manage to capture good photos of these fellows, they moved quickly. Hats off to our volunteers from the Eagles. You can bet Stu Harvey was involved in this as well.

Meanwhile, our crack team of kitchen volunteers have been cleaning, sorting and organizing the Post kitchen in preparation for an August dinner blitz!

Stu Harvey, Harold Smith and I arrived at the Post yesterday morning at 7:30 a.m. to begin the demo and bar wall mods for the social hall. When we arrived, our trusty Trustee Doug Sanders was already there with kolaches.



Step 1 was to cut the carpet back to expose the underlying structure.



Measure the cutout for moving in/out of the ice machines.



We thought there was no electric at this end of the wall, but just in case Stu looked a little more. Good thing because the original cut depth might have been shocking.




Here is the old non-working ice machine. It was pretty heavy so being able to slide it out sure beat trying to lift it out!





Next up we needed to do some clean out on the new location for the ice machine. Sawzall is our friend.



Give credit to those WWII guys--this stuff was built strong! It took a while but we got there and all that was left for demo day was the base clean up. Don't know what we would do without Harold.




Jimmy asked us what was up, so we showed him and got the Jimmy seal of approval.




In case you were wondering what my part was, it was the non-skilled labor job of holding things down, lifting things out, and hauling out the garbage, lol.

We have more work to do and a short amount of time before the ice machine is scheduled for delivery. We have to get a new jbox to plug in the ice machine. We also need to get a new floor drain installed, but won't be able to do that before tomorrow morning (machine is due to be delivered-installed). The existing drain is a little more than six feet from the new ice machine location; if we are lucky they will give us a pass until we have time to cut out some concrete for that drain.

With less than 24 hours we are a little anxious about the electric. Cross your fingers!
